sustainable commuting
|
In order to realize the goal for over 90% of our staff to commute to campus by sustainable commuting alternatives, we have implemented the following in the past year:
- Coordinated with the Transport Department (TD) in providing additional public transport service whenever necessary. It includes but not limited to such large events as Commencement of Spring / Fall terms, Congregation, Information Day and Welcoming events for new students. Please click here to view.
- Regular meetings with the TD in reviewing and improving the public transport service, e.g. introducing trial-run for a special non-stop express bus in the morning rush hour from Hang Hau. The last three meetings among HKUST, TD and KMB are held on 24 Jan, 25 March and 26 July 2024.
- Promotion campaign to all University members for the use of public transport as well as shuttle bus services during commencement of terms. The campaign includes setting up of booth at high-traffic area in the campus and electronic messages dissemination to staff and students via different channels. Please click here to view.
- Installing additional electric vehicle (EV) charging facilities by phases (from 1% in 2021 to 30% (constituting 360 parking spaces) in 2028) while replacing our fleet of official vehicles with EVs. Currently, 90% of our fleet are either hybrid or EVs. Click here for details.
- Target to introduce electric bus on campus by staff bus contractor once the appropriate campus charging facility is established.
